Plate for gussets, cladding and embedded parts

Hot-rolled plate is the base for everything that is not made from a section: gussets in joints, base plates under posts, embedded parts in concrete, hopper cladding, frame reinforcement, platforms and stair treads. Thin plate from 2 mm bends and cuts easily; from 5 mm upward it is structural steel for welded joints.

Thickness drives both weight and behaviour. A 1250×2500 sheet at 2 mm weighs a fraction of the same sheet at 8 mm, which directly affects delivery and whether it can be lifted by hand on site. Standard widths are 1250 and 1500 mm; length and cutting are agreed against your drawing.

Questions and answers

Plate questions

How much does a sheet weigh?

Weight follows thickness and format: the thicker the plate, the heavier the sheet. A table by thickness and format is in our reference section.

Which thickness suits gussets?

Typical welded joints in domestic structures often use 4 to 8 mm. The exact thickness depends on the force in the joint and should come from the drawing.

Do you cut plate to size?

Yes, we cut strips and blanks. Send a drawing or a list of sizes and we will price the cutting.

Hot-rolled or cold-rolled?

Hot-rolled is thicker, cheaper and carries mill scale — it goes into structures. Cold-rolled is thinner with a smoother surface, for parts where appearance matters.
